WHO (World Health Organisation) defines disability as a limitation or lack of capability to perform activities in the method or within the range measured standard for a human being. Disability is a situation or purpose judged to be appreciably impaired relative to the usual average of an entity or group. Disability is a characteristic of a person for which they search settings that do not limit them and allow them to accept and continue their potential. Disability results from impairment, limiting the range and efficiency of one’s functioning. The degree of disability could be reduced with the use of equipment and appliances.  People should know about the disability definitions. Disability should influence people in dissimilar ways, even when one person has the same kinds of disability as a different person. Some disabilities might be hidden, known as an unnoticed disability. Categories of disability kinds incorporate various physical and mental impairments that should diminish a person’s capability to carry out their day to day activities.

Types of disability

Disabilities are of different types. They are

Vision disability

Hearing disability

Speech disability

Visually disabled children can be classified into the following two categories. i) Blind ii) partially sighted. The disability definition is useful to people to protect their children.

Blind are those who have lost their vision. They are to be educated through channels other than vision. Blind children are to be sent to the special school for the blind where they learn through the Braille system.

Partially sighted are those who have a significant loss or visual power that could not be corrected through the use of spectacles.

Hearing disability is one who lost their hearing capacity. Heredity factors are responsible for 50% cases of deafness and the other 50% are due to various physiological ailments.  Deaf people need the provision of part-time specially trained teachers to help them individually or in small groups for an hour or half an hour daily. They give training in the use of hearing aids and they give lip-reading and sign language. The teacher should correct the speech of the disabled person.

Speech disability is one who lost their speech capacity. They are also known as “dumb children”. Dumb children, generally are deaf from birth. Such children are to be given training in speaking, after improving their hearing disability with medical assistance.

Disability under social security

The disability definition under social security is different than other programs. Disability under social security is based on your inability to work. The person did not do their day to day work that they did before. Society makes a decision that they cannot regulate other occupations because of their medical situation.  The disabled person did not participate in social activities because of their disability.

Empowerment of person with disabilities

The disabled person also has some dreams about their life. But their talents are refused by the society. Then the government decides to allow the disabled person.  The government will provide jobs and every scholarship facilities to the disabled person. In 1969, the Government of India approved a scheme for giving National Awards to the outstanding employers of persons with disabilities. To recognize their effort and encourage others to achieve excellently in their field. Awards will also be given to both the government and private sector people.  Through this disability definition, people should know about the rights of disabled persons.
